It has been over three to four decades ago when I was introduced to Paul Carter at Provident. Back then I was in need of someone who could give me a financial plan that would set me on a pathway that would give me a direction and a goal to look forward to. Back then future planning wasn’t high on the list of priorities just living for the coming day was.
If it wasn’t for that fortunate meeting with Paul then I would living in a completely different world. Even back then I remember the chats we had about having a balance in my work and life. It didn’t quite sink in back then but today it has made me appreciate how important that guidance was.
I have retired early with a more than sound financial outlook and have learnt to enjoy what I have sown. Enjoying many trips to the Formula 1 GPs ,Mount Panorama Bathurst with my brothers and fishing in the Mackerel islands, things that make me smile and enjoy life.

We hadn’t travelled overseas for almost 3 years and the bucket list kept getting longer as we were getting older. There was a serious imbalance between ideas and actions and “Enjoy” wasn’t being pursued with enough vigour.
A visit to Barcelona, a cruise around the Western Mediterranean and re-invigoration in Singapore seems a logical antidote. Greg and Paul have always promoted the “Enjoy Factor” as part of the investment strategy and through Greg’s diligence we were well positioned to include it.
Our cruise started (and finished) in Barcelona so we need no excuse to spend a week in this wonderfully historic and multi-faceted city. Day trips of two important nearby wine regions (Priorat and Penedes) enjoying the wines, traditional food and history was memorable. The rest of the time in Barcelona was easily accounted for by visiting old and new culturally important buildings, markets and finding exciting tapas restaurants.
The 21 day cruise on the Mediterranean provided 18 off-ship days for tours encompassing eastern and southern Spain, Gibraltar, Morocco, several of the Seas most important islands, western Italy and the French Riviera. Although not a prerequisite, the opportunity to visit 8 wine regions during the cruise was an added bonus. Sicily, Sardinia and southern Spain (Jerez) provided the best wine experiences, however all wine regions were of interest and coupled with local, traditional foods was most educational and enjoyable.
Historic sites were everywhere and we saw Etruscan tombs, the World’s oldest temple on Gozo, castles, Roman walls and amphitheatres, churches and cathedrals, art and culture.
Singapore is always on our agenda when we are on our way back to Australia. It is safe, has great exhibitions, an endless variety of excellent food and allows us to rest up and get back into our time zone before the inevitable need to get back to “reality”.
As exciting and enjoyable our trip was it just re-enforced how lucky we are to live in the best place on the planet - Perth, Western Australia. Thanks Provident.
